No one was hurt in a Friday night fire that displaced several tenants from two apartments, Bethlehem Fire Marshal Craig Baer said.
The 11:42 p.m. fire was reported upstairs in the three-story building housing Domino’s Pizza and the neighboring Cigar Shop near Third and New streets.
“I haven’t even had a chance to go into the building yet to start investigating how this began,” Baer said as firefighters checked for any lingering hot spots after putting out the blaze.
Declining to be identified, one tenant said he was in one of the upstairs apartments when the alarm began going off and he saw and smelled smoke. He said he opened the door, saw thick smoke in the hallway and evacuated himself and others.
“It was me and two other people inside when the landlord came and told us to get out because there was a fire upstairs,” Cigar Shop owner Franklin Pichardo said.
